Builder Sam Update

Hi everyone, Builder Sam here.
Thank you to all the followers of this blog. It is so wonderful to connect with people who like miniatures too! I really enjoy reading your comments.
Spring has sprung and so have a million things on the to-do list. As you can see I am in the middle of organizing my real life house and I have little time for miniatures.
(It is a rather sad day when your baby wants their bedroom painted grey and not pink anymore!)
Isabelle spoke to me about the cats. They are not leaving the dollhouses alone, so something has to change.
(Trust me, they only look innocent! We homeschool and one of my children said that they couldn't do any work because the cats were sleeping on their books!)
I am about to move the whole Small community to a gated area where they will be safe from the wild beasts these cats turn into after dark.
Isabelle is going to arrange a meeting with all of the Small dolls to let them know what changes are happening. There is going to be a lot of moving in the next few weeks.
My office. Yes, it needs help!
Thanks for reading,
Sam

  2. Growing up is hard to do! I feel your pain with the "wild beasts" .... we love them, but they don't leave the little people alone! A gated community sounds like a good idea... I hope you have room! LOL! We will still be here when you emerge from the big renovations.... !

    1. Thanks. I have decided that I really don't like renovating real life houses. They are too much work. I can hardly wait until I can get back to my dollhouses.
Oh how I wish I had lots more room!

  3. Changing room colors is a sign that she is growing up! I know it is hard. Good luck keeping the beasts away from the doll houses. That is why I moved my stuff to my basement!

    1. Why do our children have to grow up? I have enjoyed every age of my kids, but now I don't want them to get any older. I like having them around as they are so interesting! Oh well, life keeps going on.
Yes, the basement is looking good to me at the moment too.

  4. My wild beast got stressed out because we had too much company and ate some furniture that she never looked at before! You look really professional up there on that ladder!
Change is usually a pain in the neck...but there is also an element of excitement with it.

    1. Cats do the strangest things sometimes! Cannot help but love them anyway.
Professional looking maybe, but I was shaking like a leaf! As I get older I am finding that I don't feel as stable up on a ladder as I did when I was younger. I really hate cutting-in along the ceiling, but it has to be done.

  5. Sounds like you have your hands full Sam. Don't worry too much about the change of bedroom colour, kids continue to evolve and she will want it pink again before you know it!! Ha ha!

Hey, perhaps it is the wild beasts that need to be moved to a gated area??? Thank heavens my Coco is a well mannered little mutt, sleeps most of the day but lets me know when he's feeling neglected. A quick cuddle and he goes back to sleep. :)

Well best of luck with all the moving, I can see by your office there's more work ahead.
    Hugs,
    X

    1. Yeah, it isn't possible to gate the cats. It is much easier (well, kind of) to move the dollhouses.
My office is like a catch-all room at the moment. It is so cluttered, but I am in the middle of spring cleaning. It can only get better from here!

  6. Hi Sam! I love grey!!!!! I painted my living/ dining room a silver blue-grey and then I thought that I needed a change after a couple of years had gone by and re-painted it 3 times within 2 weeks because I couldn't like the colors that I had chosen. In the end, I painted it almost the identical color it was before, silver blue grey and I have never looked back! So take comfort in that you may not have to repaint your daughter's room again for the next 10 years! :D

    1. Oh I hope so! I am getting too old to be swinging from a ladder! My sense of balance has changed and I prefer my feet on the ground.
I must admit, the grey is not as bad as I thought it would be. Now I just need to paint some furniture. (I think I hate painting!)

  7. I wish everything will work out well for you! Also the cats are lovely but we also have 2 cats and they can become quite beast-like at night! O:

    1. Thanks. I love my beasts but they can be quite destructive at times. There is something about the night air that makes them quite wild!

  8. So you're Builder Sam in RL too... very professional. I bet you feel sorry that the big, muscled guys only appear to help in Isabelle's world. And I keep my fingers crossed that your beast-problems can be solved... ;O)

    Greetings
    Birgit

    1. If only those muscle guys were here to help - that would be incredible!!!!
I am definitely not professional, but I try to do a good job!

  9. Hi Sam, you've probably heard the saying "In a cat's eye all things belong to a cat"
It's true in our house too - this includes wallpaper, toilet tissue, plastic shopping bags, doll wigs, cake, my warm seat ^_^
Good luck with the gated area !!

    1. Yes, you are correct, everything belongs to the cats. We are only here to serve them! Gotta love them anyway. They are just too cute.

  10. Hi Sam,
I cannot work out why doll houses - furnished or not , are just so appealing to cats. My Siamese always loved settling into a room of my house. I still move her avatar around the house now she is only with us in spirit.
Re Elizabeth and her repainting. It is all true . She would paint and it would look fabulous and I would say so.
She would give her grim look and say it was not quite right and next time I would go over it would all be redone until it was returned to what I considered the original colour.
She is the same with her mini projects, she just keeps tweeking until it is perfect!
    All the best.
    Regards Janine

    1. My theory is that the small size of dollhouses make cats feel they are the powerful beasts they think they are!
Siamese are gorgeous cats and my cats are only part Siamese. That is neat that you still have strong memories of your cat.
Regarding Elizabeth - yes she is a Perfect Perfectionist!!!! I can tell from her meticulous work on her dollhouses that her real life home would be perfect too. (I think I would drive her crazy as my motto tends to be "near enough - good enough!")

  11. Beautiful cats, how could you deny them a little chew now and then!

    ReplyDelete
  12. I know! I am so cruel not letting them chew whatever they want to. Ha, ha! I must be weird, but I really don't like the sight of chew marks in wood trim and claw marks on the roof.

  13. Grey! You have one sophisticated child there! Fantastic! She also will need a crystal chandelier. :) My kitten has been so good with my dollhouses. She just likes to sleep next to them. She must be some sort of angel cat. LOL! I still can't believe I was able to take her to the beach! I hope you have a great time redecorating your daughter's room!
    hugs♥,
    Caroline
